MEMO

The project to commemorate the world's extinct species

MEMO PARTICIPATES IN A SERVICE AT ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL
14th SEPTEMBER 2008

“The MEMO project should never have been necessary. But necessary it is, and I'm glad to see human imagination involved in the task of commemorating the diversity of life rather than diminishing it.”         ~ Philip Pullman, MEMO patron

JULY 2008, ROYAL SOCIETY BOARD VOTES UNANIMOUSLY TO OFFICIALLY ENDORSE MEMO PROJECT

May Micro Festival

The MEMO May Micro Festival in Portland is running from May 13th to 22nd in Portland. It will take place near where Robert Hooke developed his ideas of extinction in the 17th century. We'll have stonecarving, with demonstrations and with opportunities for you to try it yourself. A bell founding workshop, theatre productions and talks are all scheduled — please contact us if you want to know details, or check back here over the next few days, we'll be updating this site throughout the coming weeks.

We have a description of the events available as a PDF document (you'll need a PDF viewer such as Adobe Reader or SumatraPDF to view it).

The Sixth Extinction

With the Holocene Extinction Event we are currently witnessing the most rapid species decline in the Earth's history.

These are examples of large, photogenic and memorable species; current estimates are that half of all species will become extinct within a century.
